Engineer is probably the easiest character. If turrets die just kite and replace. Fungus is a white item so pretty easy to get eventually, just a matter of surviving until then. Even then fungus isn't the only important item. Attack speed and sticky bombs are super OP on Engineer.

Yeah, people are acting like railgunner is very challenging, but anybody can pick up the character in a couple runs. Crit spots are usually generous, and damage is broken. That being said, things being broken is what makes ror2 fun.

The only run I've done with Command so far was a blast. I did a crit build by stacking Lens-Makers, Predatory, and Harvester's, in addition to the Tonic/Gesture combo. Had a blast. Tried a cheese heal engineer build. Got about 100 bustling fungus with n'kuhanas opinion for the dps. 20 personal shield gens and aegis mean you have enough hp and ... Gotta be honest, Railgunner scales TERRIBLY. Now hear me out. Railgunner has an AMAZING early game. The whole character is built around ungodly single-target DPS. Which is good in theory. That, plus the auto-aiming primary makes her nearly unstoppable in the first few stages. But Railgunner's power declines RAPIDLY as you approach stage 5 ish.

Getting one or two early on is great, since it lets you deal with enemies like golems way quicker. On the alternate, it does nothing for the reason you described.
