I use a Mossberg Maverick 88 myself, basically same as the 500, except for the trigger assembly, and trigger guard mounted safety, All aftermarket parts interchange, and mine has the 20" barrel and 8 shot capacity. I personally have a Mossberg 500. The SuperNova is the better gun, you should buy the 500. I went to 3 hunting stores today looking to purchase my first small game (and turkey) 12 gauge pump action shotgun for under $500. From some prior research I was interested in the Remington 870 Express, Mossberg 500, or Benelli Nova as they seemed to be similar and popular introductory choices.It feels thick in your hands. The 870 (or even a 500) felt way more responsive to me. If you just want an entry level beginner pump shotgun - go with the 870. I own it in 12 and 20 and I own a Benelli SBE 2 (which is great) but as a beginner gun, the 870 will last decades, you can beat it up, and it shoots straight.
