Im not a lore master of dark souls but the light corresponds to time. So if the is no light, time is stagnant. So the dark firelink is “dark” so time is still. If you killed the maiden in the normal firelink she will rise again (respawn) because time is flowing. Time isnt moving in the dark firelink so she doesnt respawn.The Firelink kill is basically free, while he can be quite challenging to battle in his cell for a new player. You can get good if you want to, but there are 3 routes to take from fire link and the skeletons are the middle point in difficulty.
